HUSKIES KNOCK OFF KNIGHTS 63-61
The North Huskies' most satisfying win of the season came in the opening round of the Sectional as they knocked off tournament favorite Castle by a score of 63-61. The game was not as close as the score might indicate. The Huskies led by as many as 10 points with under a minute-thirty to play--missed free throws and a pair of final minute turnovers contributed to a last second score that made the game appear closer than it was.
The Huskies built and maintained a double digit lead throughout most of the fourth period on the strength of marksman-like shooting. Junior Ryan Caddell hit all three of his three point attempts and went eight for eight from the free throw line on his way to a team high 18 points. Senior Chandler Moore made three of his last four three-point attempts, and junior Aidan Blackford buried his only three of the game as the buzzer went off to finish the third period. Leading by ten with 2:40 to play, North spread their offense out and made multiple baskets driving to the basket. Unfortunately when the shots were thwarted by Castle fouls, the Huskies missed the free throws and allowed the Knights to shorten the gap. Caddell, a 95% free throw shooter, ironed things out for the Huskies by stepping up and making six straight from the stripe after others had missed four-in-a-row.
