2007 HUSKIES FOOTBALL SQUAD ASSAULTS RECORD BOOKS:
Last season's edition of the Husky football team had more than it's share of stellar performances. By any set of standards the 2007 team was the one of the most prolific in school history when it came to challenging the highest echelons of the record book.
1st team AP All State senior Dion Pendleton set both game and career records. On an unforgettable night against Henderson County, the senior quarterback carried the ball 4 times for an amazing 160 yards and three touchdowns. His 40 yard average per carry is the most for any player who gained 150 or more yards in a game.
Pendleton also broke the school Career Total Yardage mark (passing + rushing + receiving) by over 500 yards with 5,371 for his career. His 57 combined touchdowns ranks second on the career list.
All-City defensive back Stephen Jackson broke a 44 year old school record for most solo tackles in a career. His 130 from 2005-07 surpassed 1963 AP All State linebacker Charlie Broyles' 125.
Fellow All-City team mate Larry Merriweather finished his stellar career amongst the school's all-time leaders on both sides of the line of scrimmage. He completed his career in the top ten in the following TEN categories: Career Solo Tackles (7th), Career Rushing Yards (5th), Career Rushing Touchdowns (3rd), Career Rushing Attempts (3rd), Most games 2 or more TD's (2nd), Most games 3 or more TD's (3rd), Most 100 yard rushing games (10th), Most Points in a Season (4th), Most Rushing TD's Season (4th), Most Carries in a Season (7th).
Senior WR Ryan Parkman finished 3rd in career receptions with 70 and 4th in career receiving yards with 1,186. Fellow wide out Jr. Mitch Parker turned in one of North's finest single game performances versus Reitz with 6 receptions for 134 yards--both marks are good for second all-time.
Senior LB George Quarles tied a 36 year old school record when he picked off three interceptions against Jennings County in the first round of the sectional. Quarles ended his career tied for 6th all-time in interceptions.
In all, it was an exceptional year by any set of standards. The team recorded 9 victories for only the fifth time in it's fifty-one year history and the record book was re-written throughout the season.
